Some of the Ways Your Gift Assists Us All

Providing Early Warning of Wildfire Ignition

We are in the process of placing high definition cameras atop 60 foot towers in key locations. These cameras feed thousands of images per hour, in real time, to a computer assisted learning tool that allows the images to be scanned for signs of wildfire ignition. If an ignition is detected, fire officials are alerted. Early detection of ignition allows for early initial attack on the fire, thus limiting the scope and spread of wildfires.

These same towers are also hosting radio frequency repeaters that allow for communications in “dead spots” for both fire officials and CERT and COPE leadership as well as Sonoma County Department of Transportation and Public Works. We are also placing weather stations on these towers to provide real time access to critical weather information such as temperature, wind direction and wind speed 24/7 and especially during wildfires.

Volunteers for CERT – Training, Equipment, Communications

Your generous donation will also support our emergency teams to staff emergency evacuation centers throughout Northern Sonoma County, to assist with evacuation traffic control (and repopulation), and to provide support to our fire services. The more we can do to provide support to our community and to our fire services the more they can do to protect us.
